A lull in birdwatching

I always figure this time in March is a bit quiet for birdwatching.
Yes, the resident birds are busy with the breeding season - some already nesting, some getting ready to nest, with birds like Koel making plenty of noise as they advertise for mates and defend territories.

But migrants are rather thin on the ground. Most winter visitors have gone; albeit with us hardly having a winter of late, haven't been too many winter visitors in recent months.
This morning, for instance, I walked round se Cheung Chau, found no thrushes - which did become fairly common around January. Were a couple of Yellow-browed Warblers calling, a Pallas's Warbler singing: both species will leave soon, probably for forests in Russia.

Most summer visitors and passage migrants are yet to arrive. This morning, did find Manchurian Bush-Warbler: a skulking bird, sometimes here in winter, but also migrating early in spring. But the main surge of migrants, including some spectacular flycatchers bound for northeast Asia including Japan, isn't due till the end of this month and during April. Yes, just days away...
